Equine Lameness and objective gait analysis

Come and join us at Evidensia Faxe Hestehospital.
One day course, with Dr. Kevin Keegan, how will share great knowledge about lameness in horses. You will learn both theoretically and practically about the horse's biomechanics and lameness.

The objective of this course

The objective of this course is to explain objective detection and evaluation of lameness in horses using body-mounted inertial sensors, specifically The Q with Lameness Locator, using easily understood biomechanical first principles and clinical experience.
The Q with Lameness Locator, is use for evaluation of the horse trotting in a straight line, during lunging, under saddle with the rider either sitting the trot or performing the rising trot, before and after flexion tests, and before and after nerve or joint blocks will be covered.
You will learn, how The Q can help you identify lameness, to evaluate the effects of flexion testing, blocking and lunging, and how to interpret an apparent simultaneous forelimb and hindlimb lameness to make an educated guess as to the site of most likely primary lameness, using knowledge of known compensatory and secondary lameness patterns.
Clinical examples will be used to show why, in certain cases, objective measurement of lameness was necessary for correct identification of the cause of lameness.

It will be shown that, with a little practice, and in the hands of an experienced equine veterinarians, using body-mounted inertial sensors can streamline the lameness evaluation, with minimal to no disruption of a practitioner’s current lameness evaluation procedure.

Theoretical and practical course

The use of this system will first be explained in didactic lecture type format, but then demonstrated on multiple live horses in a clinical setting.

For vets and veterinary nurses!
